Tournaments 2009

Comforting to think that Summer, with its cold temperatures and seemingly incessant rain, is just round the corner!

Set out below, for the information of coaches, players and their parents/carers are details for those tournaments for which we have so far received information. As and when we receive details of any other tournaments, I will post them here, so check back regularly.

For the benefit of those players and their parents/carers who have joined this season, most of our Larkhall Athletic teams enter three or four summer tournaments each season (subject to coach and player availability). Most tournaments are five or six a side, depending on the age group, with Under 8 tournaments held as "Festivals of Football" in which all players receive a medal (i.e. they are "non-competitive" in the full sense of the term).

Coaches decide which tournaments to enter after checking expected availability of players and tournament places. The cost of tournament entries (usually ranging from around £15 to £20 per team) is not covered by players’ annual membership subscriptions, so those players wishing to take part need to pay their coaches around £3 per tournament; the exact amount depends on the entry fee for particular tournaments.

Though matches in tournaments are very short - usually only 4 or 5 minutes each way - the children usually love taking part and when the sun shines that’s a bonus!
