Details of U15s’ last four games

Here are the details of our last four games.

U15s fixtures

Day Date KO Opponent Venue Meet
Thurs 24 April 6.30pm Chippenham Town Away 5.30pm at Alice Park
Weds 30 April TBC (but eve) Melksham Town Red Away Alice Park, time TBC

Weds 7 May (TBC) 7.00pm Melksham Town Blue Home 6.15pm at Lansdown Playing Fields (where we train)

The date, time and venue of our home game against Melksham Town Blue have yet to be confirmed. The game was to be played on 27 April, but Melksham cannot now make that date. Also it is likely that the match will be played on Lansdown Playing Fields (where we train) as the Kingswood pitch  is no longer available to us.

Would all players please contact Steve Horwood ASAP to advise him of their availability for each game (phone: Bath 313391). Please note: as we now have 16 players registered for our squad and only 14 players can play in matches (i.e. including 3 substitutes) it will be necessary for two players to "stand down" for a game if all of our players are available. Steve and I will decide who that will be, taking account of various factors including those who have already taken their turn at missing a game.

Best wishes, Tony U15s Coach

Great win for the U15s

Our U15s today beat Chippenham Town Youth 6-3 at Kingswood.

It was a fantastic performance by all the boys, with Jake Brady and Ayman Zaid making good debuts.

The whole team showed great fighting spirit to come back from two goals down after less than 10 minutes, to lead 3-2 at half time. Chris Day scored the first two goals, with Joe Pilgrim scoring the third to put the U15s in the lead at the break.

Soon after half-time, Chippenham equalised and the Larks’ self-belief wavered again, but they carried on battling and got their reward with a further two quick goals from Chris Day to go 5-3 up and make the game safe. Chris rounded off a great personal performance by scoring his fifth just before the end.

Though the goals were shared by just two of our players, every one of the boys was an important part of a great team performance. Jake Horwood and Dan Roberts played up front for much of the game and gave the opposition defenders a difficult time were occasionally unlucky to score. Joe Pilgrim and Dan Keevill both worked very hard in central midfield and had influential games. Josh White and Tom Dyke competed well in midfield and showed some nice touches. Unfortunately, Tom’s game was cut short when he received a bang on the knee. In defence, Matt Owen, Steve McGill, Russell Forster and Joe Payne all played really well, making tackle after tackle to win the ball or clear their lines. Matt Rabenda in goal also did well in goal, facing the best corners taken against the U15s by any team so far this season.

In the quest to maintain their status in the Green Division for 08-09, this was a really important win for the U15s and all the boys can feel proud of a great performance!!

Well done one and all - more of the same please in our next game!!

Best wishes, Tony U15s Coach

16 December game vs. Westbury is postponed

The Westbury coach contacted me today to explain that our game scheduled for 16 December has to be postponed, because Westbury have to play a cup game that day; a match already postponed from a previous weekend.

Steve and I will try to arrange a friendly for 16 December, or see if another League match can be brought forward.

Cheers, Tony U15’s Coach

U15s’ game on 9 December

Following postponement of the U15s’ away game on 2 December because of an unplayable pitch, it is unfortunate that the team’s home game on 9 December (against Chippenham) has already also had to be postponed, because Chippenham have to play a re-arranged cup match on 9 December.

However, would all players still please report to The Royal High School pitch on 9 December at 1.30pm, as we will take the opportunity to have a training session on the grass there. This will be useful preparation for our last game before Christmas  - away to Westbury Youth on 16 December.

Best wishes, Tony Day Co-chairman LAYFC

U15s’ game on 2 December

The U15s’ 2 December game against Melksham Town Youth (Red) has had to be postponed because the pitch at Awdry Road, was judged unplayable by a County FA referee. Apparently, an adults’ game being played there this morning had to be abandoned part-way through because the pitch was in such a state.

The Melksham Town Youth game will be rearranged, probably for a date in the New Year. As soon as details are known, players and parents/carers will be advised.

Best wishes, Tony Day Co-chairman LAYFC

U15s’ game on 25 November

The U15s’ next game is on 25 November.

It is a home game, at The Royal High School, against Castle Combe Colts.

Kick-off is at 2.00pm; please be sure to be there by 1.30pm. Should you be unavailable for the game, please let Tony or Steve know ASAP.

Best wishes, Tony Day

Matt Owen suffers broken wrist

During the U15s’ game today against FC Chippenham Youth, Matt Owen unfortunately suffered a broken wrist.

The injury occurred when Matt fell akwardly while making a save in goal. The advice from the hospital is that Matt will be in plaster for 4-6 weeks. While he is on the mend, he will be a loss to the U15s for his goalkeeping and his outfield play.

Everyone associated with the U15s and, I’m sure, the wider club, wishes Matt a speedy recovery and hope that he’s back playing as soon as possible.

Best wishes, Tony Day
