U13 Girls through to the Cup Final!

Lansdown Sat 28th 1030am - Cup Semi Final day…saw our U13 girls play their  biggest fixture of the season v Swindon Ladies - last seasons A League winners and Cup holders.

With Chris Lowe’s team talk ringing in their ears - "compete for every ball, keep possession, support your team mates, make your parents proud"….the girls hit the ground running from the first whistle.

After some initial Swindon pressure, the girls took control of the game going ahead on 13 mins from an Ellie Lyne throw in/Becky Sartin flick on and a fine first-time shot into the back of the net from Romany Lowe.

Larkhall pressure continued, with the team holding possession well and, after some fine passing, Ellie Lyne picked up the ball midway in the Swindon half, dropped her shoulder, beat three players and buried the ball in the back of the net - the crowd went wild!

Half time fast approached with Larkhall leading 2-0.

As expected, Swindon came back into the game in the second half and, with the contest more even, every ball and every blade of grass was covered by the Larkhall Girls to maintain their lead.

With just 8 mins remaining, Swindon pulled a goal back to set up a tense finale…but with the volume levels rising from both sets of increasingly excited supporters, the Larkhall Girls’ spirit and fantastic team play saw them home deserved 2-1 winners.

A highly impressive victory for Larkhall Girls - their first County Cup Final, and a significant and proud day for Larkhall Girls football.

We can all now look forward to the Cup Final against Bath City Girls who beat Cricklade 2-0 in the other semi-final.

The date and venue of the final will be published as soon as it is known.

Well done Girls!

Martin Lyne, U13 Girls co-coach

Club Website - UPDATE

Thank you for visiting the current web page for Larkhall Athletic Youth.

We are currently updating our website so we apologise if the place looks a little ‘out of date’!  We hope to have a refurbished site operating by the start of the new season - 2010/11.

In the meantime, if you would like to know more about the club, or you would like to join one of our youth teams - boys or girls - please call me on 01225 444794 and we can talk about what you’re looking for.

Our club is continuing to grow and so we’re always on the look out for people with ideas and a little spare time to help.  You don’t even need to be an expert in football - just willing to lend an occasional helping hand.  In these busy times, we appreciate most folk don’t have a lot of free time, but if you can spare a little of that time (even on a part time basis), that could make a big difference to a voluntary club like ours.  There is always lots to do!  So if you’d like to ‘give something back’ and help a youth organisation develop even further, please call for a chat.

We’re looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Richard Stone (Co-chairman, Larkhall Athletic Youth)

Corsham Football Tournament 2010

Congratulations to all who played in todays tournament, both teams played fantastic football in a great spirit and atmosphere. The Eagles stormed there way through to the Quarterfinals, finally losing out to the eventual winners of the tournament - so well done and well played.

The Falcons had an equally tough group doing very well, but just missing out getting through to the Quarterfinals!

I would like to congratulate Corsham for yet another fantastic event an we all look forward to next years competition.

Kind regards

M-S-N v Larkhall Under 9’s

Just a quick "well" done to all the children both in Larkhall & M-S-N who played in todays matches at Somervale School        M-S-N!

Both games were played with all the spirit and fun that "Minisoccer" should be played in, and I am so very proud of you all.  I would also like to thank all the parents and supporters for encouraging both sides and the Referee for doing a sterling job looking after the children’s welfare!

Well done again to you all and I look forward to seeing you again next Sunday!

URGENT: All home matches on Lansdown council pitches OFF this weekend (14/15 February)

Hi everyone, Sorry, but we have a repeat of last weekend I’m afraid - BANES have advised us that all the Lansdown pitches are, unfortunately, unplayable for this weekend. The pitches still have snow and ice on them. (Odd Down pitches are also unplayable, so a switch to there is not possible.) Individual coaches will advise the players’ parents/carers in those teams who were due to have home matches at Lansdown this weekend. Similarly if any away games have to be postponed, coaches will advise their teams. It MAY be possible in some cases to switch home games to the opponent’s own ground or to another venue, but your child’s coach will advise you if that is possible. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news to those looking forward to playing or watching football again this weekend. Fingers crossed pitches will improve in time for next weekend! Still at least there’ll be more time for anyone favouring some "Valentine canoodling"! Best wishes, Tony Tony Day Co-Chairman Larkhall Athletic Youth FC

URGENT: Kingswood ASTRO training sessions cancelled on 11 and 12 February

In confirmation of messages already sent to relevant year group coaches, would all parents/carers and players please note that Kingswood have advised that their two astros (old and new) are still "frozen solid" and are unsafe. Therefore, there has been no option but to cancel training for the U12 and U16 age groups tonight (U8s in the Kingswood Sportshall should be unaffected I understand). Kingswood have also advised that training for the U13s and U15s and Ladies tomorrow evening will also have to be cancelled. Apologies for this, but it’s obviously not sensible to proceed in unsafe conditions. Training sessions on the St Marks school astro should be OK to go ahead this Wednesday and Thursday. The U14s trained there on Tuesday night and the astro was fine. Training during half term: Please check with your coach as to whether or not there will be training for your year group or team next week. I am aware that there will be NO training for the U10s, U13 Girls, U15 Girls and U14 boys. Hope you all have a nice half-term. Best wishes, Tony Tony Day Co-chairman Larkhall Athletic Youth FC

More coaches gain the FA Level 2 qualification

Five more coaches have successfully completed the FA Level 2 qualification, which brings to seven the number of Level 2 coaches at our club. The encouragement given to coaches to develop their coaching skills, experience and qualifications is part of our continuing efforts to improve the quality of coaching available at our club to players of all ages and abilities, with the overriding aim that players can train and play with greater enjoyment and success and develop to their full personal potential. Andy Smith and Paul Collins gained their Level 2 in 2007 and earlier this year respectively and have now been joined by Rus Morley (Under 10s), “Murph” (Under 11s), Rob Cartwright and Terry Buckley (Under 12s) and Tony Day (Under 15 Girls and U14s). Many congratulations to everyone for passing their course, which involved quite a lot of work, including eight days’ theory and practical coaching at Writhlington Sports Centre under the guidance of senior FA Coach Assessors.

The latest position with supply of kit

The club very much regrets the long delays that some parents/carers have experienced in obtaining one or two sizes of kit from John Moores’ Stitch and Print shop. As already explained to some of the parents concerned, the delay – though very frustrating – was not really foreseeable and was not the fault of John Moores. Instead the problem lay with the suppliers, Prostar, who simply ran out (nationally) of the sizes concerned because the kit manufacturers let them down. I have spoken with John Moores this morning (23 December) and they have just been advised by Prostar that the missing sizes have now been received and will be despatched to John Moores ASAP in January. In the meantime, John Moores has arranged to supply those children who have been without club shirts with free Larkhall T-shirts printed up with a number and the relevant logos. To hopefully avoid any similar availability problems for next season, Richard Stone and I have agreed with John Moores that we will supply the shop, in February/March, with details of how many teams we plan to run at each age group next season. This will enable the shop to order the relevant stock early. Best wishes, Tony Day, Co-chairman Larkhall Athletic Youth FC
