The Eagles re-arranged match - Sunday 2/12

After last weeks cancellation we’re replaying the game against Mere this week-end.   Because of the Falcons’ cup game we’re playing on Sunday, kicking off at 2:00.  We’ve borrowed a pitch from another team, so we will be playing at the Royal High School on Lansdown Road.  The pitches are behind the school, so the best entrance is from Richmond Road or Charlcombe Lane.

Here is a link to a map.

See you there.

Long gap in fixtures, but rearrangement of postponed Chippenham game planned

There is now a long gap in the Girls’ published fixtures, with the next game not scheduled until 19 January, when we are due to play Chippenham (away). Such a long break is not ideal, as we don’t the girls to lose their momentum.

Therefore, efforts will be made to rearrange our home game against Chippenham, which was postponed earlier in the season. Possible dates for the game are 1 or 8 December. We will let the girls know at training what has been arranged and also post details on the website. We may also seek to arrange a friendly match before 19 January.

So, watch this space….!

Best wishes, Tony Day Co-chairman LAYFC

Photos of games wanted please…..

If there are any budding David Baileys out there (who IS he?), it would be great to have some action shots of the Girls’ matches to include with the match reports. Therefore, please take your cameras to games and (provided the other team’s coach is agreeable) click away!

Please email any photos to tony@day1426.freeserve.co.uk.

Girls confirm top spot

Sunday 25 November

Larkhall U12 girls confirmed their position at the top of their League with a brilliant 6-0 win against a committed, strong-tackling Trowbridge Wanderers team, which contained several very good players.

In what was a very exciting and competitive game from start to finish, Larkhall girls played some lovely passing football. It was also good to see Keira play her first game for the team and she made some good interceptions and passes. The game also saw Emilie score her first goal for the team, which was a really nice reward for all her hard work, usually in defence or midfield.

Falcons out of Cup: League awards postponed game to the opposition

Players and parents/carers will remember that the Falcons’ cup game on 4 November against Trowbridge Town Youth (B) had to be postponed. This was due to the fact that we could not raise a team as several Falcons players had other sporting commitments that day.
Because, according to Mid Wilts League rules, games can only be postponed if a pitch is unplayable, or if players are unavailable due to injury or “organised” school activities, the League has today advised me that it has deemed our postponement of the 4 November game as unacceptable and has therefore awarded the game to Trowbridge Town Youth (B). The Falcons are, therefore, out of the cup for this season.
This is an unfortunate outcome for all of the Falcons team - who had a good chance of progressing in the competition - but the League’s decision is entirely consistent with the rules and understandable.
It is recognised that several of our U10 players have other sporting interests besides football. This situation does highlight, though, that while we have quite small U10 squads, we are reliant on all players making themselves available to play for their team if we are to avoid similar problems and punishments in future. To aid parents’ planning, the Falcons’ and Eagles’ future fixtures are shown below:

Falcons’ fixtures:

Date Venue Opponent
25/11/2007 Away FC Chippenham Youth C
09/12/2007 Away Larkhall Athletic Eagles
16/12/2007 Home Trowbridge Wanderers
06/01/2008 Away Melksham Park Youth
13/01/2008 Home Marlborough Town Youth
27/01/2008 Home Westbury Youth Tigers
24/02/2008 Home AFC Corsham Leopards
02/03/2008 Home FC Chippenham Youth C
09/03/2008 Away Marlborough Town Youth

Eagles’ fixtures:

Date Venue Opponent
09/12/2007 Home Larkhall Athletic Falcons
16/12/2007 Away FC Chippenham Youth C
06/01/2008 Away Marlborough Town Youth
13/01/2008 Home Trowbridge Wanderers
20/01/2008 Away Westbury Youth Tigers
27/01/2008 Home Melksham Park Youth
10/02/2008 Away AFC Corsham Leopards
02/03/2008 Home FC Chippenham Youth C

(Note: please be sure to check information announced at training and/or in U10s News updates on this web site for details of any changes to the above, which may occur.)

I am trying to recruit a few more U10s to bolster the two squads and so hopefully avoid such problems in future. Nonetheless, could all players please make themselves available for all games whenever at all possible, so we can avoid having league points deducted, which would happen if we had to postpone another game because our players aren’t available due to other sporting commitments.
Should, however, you decide that your son cannot play in any of the two U10 teams’ remaining fixtures, please advise Fabio Baldan (U10s coach) as soon as possible (07877831553), so we are aware in plenty of time of any potential problems.

Thank you.

Tony Day, Co-chairman LAYFC

U15s’ game on 25 November

The U15s’ next game is on 25 November.

It is a home game, at The Royal High School, against Castle Combe Colts.

Kick-off is at 2.00pm; please be sure to be there by 1.30pm. Should you be unavailable for the game, please let Tony or Steve know ASAP.

Best wishes, Tony Day

Matt Owen suffers broken wrist

During the U15s’ game today against FC Chippenham Youth, Matt Owen unfortunately suffered a broken wrist.

The injury occurred when Matt fell akwardly while making a save in goal. The advice from the hospital is that Matt will be in plaster for 4-6 weeks. While he is on the mend, he will be a loss to the U15s for his goalkeeping and his outfield play.

Everyone associated with the U15s and, I’m sure, the wider club, wishes Matt a speedy recovery and hope that he’s back playing as soon as possible.

Best wishes, Tony Day
